Good aftercare is half the treatment. Every client leaves our clinic with written guidance, but this is the fuller version — the first 48 hours after wet cupping, hour by hour, plus the handful of warning signs worth acting on.
The first few hours
Travel home gently and plan nothing strenuous for the rest of the day. Wear loose clothing so nothing rubs against the treated area, keep the dressing on, and drink water steadily. Light walking is fine; carrying heavy shopping is not. If you feel a little light-headed after the session, sit, sip water and give it a few minutes — it passes.
The first 24 hours: keep it covered, keep it dry
No showers, baths, swimming pools, saunas or steam rooms for the first 24 hours. The small openings from the wet phase need to stay clean and dry to heal well. Keep the area covered, sleep well, and stay hydrated. Many clients also prefer to avoid heavy meat and dairy for the first day — a common traditional practice; eat lightly and normally otherwise.
24 to 48 hours: ease back in
After 24 hours you can shower normally — lukewarm rather than hot, and pat the area dry rather than scrubbing. Hold off on the gym, sport and anything that causes heavy sweating until 48 hours have passed. Any soreness should feel like mild post-exercise tenderness and fade within this window.
About the marks
The round, reddish or purplish circles where the cups sat are expected, are not true bruises, and don't normally hurt. They fade over 3 to 10 days depending on your skin and circulation. The faint superficial marks from the wet phase usually heal within 7 to 14 days. If you have an event coming up, plan backwards from those timelines — the marks are nothing to worry about, but they are visible.
The warning signs that deserve a call
Problems after properly performed wet cupping are uncommon, but be sensible: contact us or your GP promptly if you notice spreading redness around a mark, a fever, pain that increases rather than fades, or any discharge from one of the small openings. Say you've recently had wet cupping — it makes assessment quicker. When in doubt, ask; that's what our WhatsApp is for.
When to book your next session
For general wellbeing, most healthy adults return once every three months. Some clients attend monthly for a short period after consultation — we don't recommend more often than that. Many regulars line their next visit up with a Sunnah date before they leave the clinic.
The one-line summary
Covered and dry for 24 hours, no gym for 48, water throughout, and call us if anything looks or feels wrong. Follow that and you've done aftercare properly. First session still ahead of you? Start with what to expect at your first appointment, or book a slot on Fresha.
